What positions have you had with Southern Cross?
I started as a technician, moved to a lead technician and now I am the Fleet Coordinator and work in the corporate office. As a technician I worked primarily in Carrolton, Georgia, but also was able to do some small projects like the survey for Six Flags and Six Flags White Water, a project in Louisiana and a project in California to name a few.
What is your favorite position you have had with Southern Cross?
I enjoyed being outside and working outside [Field Technician and Lead Technician]. You get to go out and do your job everyday, but at the end of the day you are done. The job had nice hours and once you were done you had the rest of the day for your family. My current role I am inside a lot more, and it has been a change of scenery but still enjoyable.
How did you transition into your current position and what is this new role like?
The project I was working on as a Lead Technician was ending, and I was offered a new position in the office as a Fleet Coordinator. My role is to make sure that everything is running smoothly with the fleet. Day to day I am working on expense reports, keeping up with insurance cards, fuel cards, vehicle ordering, different reports to keep up with vehicle locations and basically anything regarding vehicles that are out in the field.
What would you say is the biggest challenge with your new role?
There isn’t anything I can think of. It was a smooth transition. I will say coming into the office everyday can be a challenge since I live West of Atlanta – so we all know traffic is a challenge!
Why did you decide to get into the gas industry?
I had been working for a painting company, and a friend of mine worked for Southern Cross. I had started looking for something else, and he got me interested because the position was out by where I lived and the day to day hours worked with my schedule.
What is one of your proudest moments at Southern Cross?
When I would find a bigger grade 1 leaks as a technician that would always be a proud moment.
If you were to ever leave the utility industry for your dream job – what would that be?
I always thought it would be fun and interesting to restore old cars!
What do you do in your spare time with your family?
I have a wife and we have been married for 17 years. We like to travel. On weekends we will explore new small towns that are close by that we haven’t been to before. We loved to have a few staycations every year!
